A CO-DESIGN SOLUTION TO DIGITAL LITERACY IN HEALTH PROVISION

Designing the hospital of the future

A series of collaborative projects between Digital Futures Hub at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust and Transtechnology Research at the University of Plymouth drew upon the collective intelligence of an interdisciplinary team to respond to the digital drive in the NHS by exploring trends and changes that will impact the future of healthcare. This work was built upon a previous collaboration in which alternative and holistic approaches to medical care were developed by reviewing the tools, methodologies and approaches for teaching and training.

Some outcomes of these projects include a mobile tea trolley of digital technologies; an ideation card toolkit for developing digital literacy skills in community healthcare teams; deep dive sessions; a design for a tech garden for delivering technical support to patients’ carers and healthcare workers using telehealth apps and wearable devices; designing role changes for the digital healthcare workforce of the future.
